Sea Freight Groupage · LCL

For cargo that does not fill a container, consider the packages, volume and destination charges together.

We provide this service with our partners.

In LCL, cargo from different shippers may share a container. Packaging and compatibility with other cargo require separate assessment; volume alone does not determine suitability.

FCL and LCL: which differences should you discuss?
TopicFCLLCL
Use of spaceThe container is allocated to your cargo under the transport arrangement.Container space may be shared with other shippers.
Preparation informationContainer type, quantity, cargo dimensions/weight and loading arrangement.Quantity, outer dimensions, gross weight and stackability of each package group.
TimingCargo acceptance, equipment availability and vessel timing are confirmed together.Consolidation and destination deconsolidation also form part of the schedule.
Scope of chargesRead freight, origin/destination local charges and free time separately.Ask separately about rating units, minimum charges and handling at origin and destination.

Prepare before enquiring

  • Carton/pallet count; packed width, length, height and gross weight of each group.
  • Stackability, fragility, overhangs and special handling needs.
  • Cargo description and any dangerous-goods, battery or temperature conditions; share these before loading.
  • Origin and destination address/port, cargo-ready date and delivery responsibilities.

Clarify these points in the quote

  • Which volume/weight unit and minimum charge does the quote use?
  • Which consolidation, deconsolidation, documentation, terminal and final-delivery charges are included?
  • Who confirms warehouse delivery, cargo cut-off and collection at destination?

Route, equipment, acceptance conditions and charges are confirmed for your cargo at the quotation stage.

Prepare an LCL enquiry in the sea freight form
